Kennedy Kelly, an Afro-surrealist artist (B. 2002) hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, showcases a vibrant blend of surrealism and portraiture in her work, reflecting the dynamic energy of Kalamazoo and Detroit where she divides her time. Proficient in painting and sculpture, she imbues both mediums with depth and emotion, capturing the essence of her subjects through nuanced strokes. Kennedy's artistic range continues to grow as she explores new mediums not limiting herself to one.
Her art, inspired by surreal imagery and the human form, intertwines elements of African American culture with surrealism, prompting viewers to ponder identity and experience. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Western Michigan University, Kennedy has fueled her passion for creating by exploring different mediums and taking on new experiences in the art world such as teaching painting classes. Beyond academia, she owns Avenue Arts, an art gallery and studio in Detroit, where she nurtures local talent through exhibitions, classes, and collaborative events, demonstrating her dedication to community engagement. Kennedy's evolving artistic journey blurs the lines between reality and imagination, inviting viewers to explore the true essence of art.”

I am thrilled to announce my artist residency with the non-profit organization Kalamazoo Fire Collective. For the month of June, I will be utilizing Kalamazoo Fire's space to create and curate my first solo art showcase! This is an amazing opportunity and the start of a new relationship with the local Kalamazoo community, and I am honored to be chosen!
